A weary salmon slips upstream while the fishing bear is distracted by friend raven. — This piece of steel wall art was purchased as a house warming present for a man in the Soldotna area. It was my day of the month to work at Ptarmigan Arts, a coop gallery in Homer, AK. I noticed a woman gazing at the piece and was able to explain the process I use to make these engraved steel pictures.

In the Studio - How the Artwork Was Made

T-nuts are brazed to the backs of the different elements and all the assembly work is finished before grinding and coloring.

After coloring the small sections of sky behind the cloud.

Using a rubber abrasive wheel to grind the birch tree.

The mossy rock and floating leaf are ready to color.

Carving the texture around the edge of the background.
