This heat colored steel metal wall art was inspired by the ocean stage of the silver salmon’s life cycle. It depicts the pull of the moon, the cycle of days and nights, the sun and the stars, and life in the ebb and flow of the open ocean between the tides and their imminent return trip to the headwaters from whence they came.

In the Studio - How the Artwork Was Made

The original drawing.

Enlarged with charcoal and chalk. Here the lines have been engraved into the steel sheet.

The greens have been colored with the hottest heat and the water area ground in preparation fro blue green.

After heating to color the water. The area was first ground with multiple abrasives and grind patterns.

The sky has been ground and colored. You can see the old dental chair stand I use for a work station. It has a tilting rotary table mounted on it. The work is held to the table with on/off magnets.
