Sicilian Street Vendor

A baker heads home from the pier at the end of the day carrying his blanket and leftover wares in this bronze relief sculpture.

I was lucky to accompany my grandmother on a trip to Italy and Sicily in 1978. I carved this walnut relief after a sketch I made one evening as the street vendors along the pier were packing up and going home. This man had slung his blanket over his shoulder and was heading home with his basket of unsold baked goods.
